Choosing a Payment Option

Tisha Morris

Emily is in the process of filing a 2290 for her dad. She doesn’t know why he chose to have her do this, as she has never done one before and is not familiar with how it works. But, it’s her dad, so she agrees to help.

She signs up and proceeds to fill out the 2290 form. Everything so far seems pretty easy to her and she wonders why she was so stressed out about it in the first place. She will have this done in no time, she thinks to herself. It is now time to decide how she wants to pay the IRS fee for the heavy vehicle usage tax (HVUT) and she sees some options before her.

The first two seem like the same option, which one should she choose?

She decides to look them both over to get a better understanding of what they are.The first one is titled ACH-Direct Bank Account Draft. She notices it asks for the following information:
Routing NumberAccount NumberAccount Type: Checking or SavingsAccount Holder Phone NumberWithdrawal DateThe 2nd one is titled EFTPS-Electronic Feder…

IRS Payment: Paper vs. eFile

Tisha Morris

Many truck drivers and tax professionals have, at some point, filed a 2290 by paper. You may have gone to your local IRS office with your information. You had your payment in hand to file and pay for the 2290 form for the Heavy Vehicle Usage Tax. The process is a little different when you use an online 3rd party e-file provider.

When you e-file through a third party, the IRS issues you the Schedule 1 before they get their payment. You have three payment options when you e-file.
ACH-Direct Bank Account Draft: With this payment option you will be required to enter your routing number, account number, phone number, and select if it is a checking or savings account. When you submit your 2290 in our site, we transmit your banking information along with the form to the IRS. Although it takes typically 5-25 minutes for the IRS to accept your 2290, they will not take your payment from your account until your form is accepted that day or the following business day.  It depends on yo…

Using Saved Vehicle Information

Tisha Morris

One of the benefits of filing your 2290 online is that the information used in the previous tax year is saved in the account. This makes the next years filing pretty easy if you do not have any vehicles to add or delete.

When you create a new return and select ‘2290 Return New’, the system will give a pop-up message asking if you wish to carry over your previous vehicle information, if you wish to do so, you will select yes.

Then you will need to select that you agree to review the vehicle information that is being carried over. Once you select agree, the vehicle(s) you filed in the previous year will carry over for your review. As long as everything looks correct, you can proceed.

There is one situation where you will definitely need to make sure to review the VIN(s) listed. If in the prior year, you filed a VIN correction for one of the vehicles, the system does not carry over information filed in an amended form. This means, when you carry over your previous vehicle inf…

EZ2290 Annual Subscription

Tisha Morris

There are a few different ways to pay the filing fee for the 2290. You can pay by debit or credit card when you submit the 2290, set up prepay in the account, or pay for the annual subscription. We are going to focus on the annual subscription.

Who should sign up for the annual subscription?
If you are an individual or paid tax professional that has multiple businesses or individuals that you file the 2290 form for, you may want to use this service. It allows you to pay a one-time fee of $199 for multiple filings under a single EIN, during the tax season. If you or your client buys or sells vehicles different times throughout the tax year, this would be for you and could end up saving you a lot of money.

How do you sign up for the Annual Subscription?
When you submit your first 2290 for the season, you will be asked to select a package offer. You will see 3 options listed on the page. The second option will be for the annual subscription. The option reads as follows: Unlimited…
